Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Monday said he has moved a file to bar contractual government doctors who earn a Rs 8-10 lakh salary from taking up private practice.
Speaking to reporters in Pernem, Rane said doctors on a contractual basis at the GMC hospital earn as much as Rs 14 lakh. “We have moved a file to bar contractual government doctors who earn a minimum of Rs 8-10 lakh salary from taking up private practice. These doctors need to focus on providing better services at the GMC hospital,” said Rane. “We have also decided to increase the timings at the OPDs,” he added.
Commenting on the status of the long-awaited Tuem hospital, Rane said the opening of the 100-bedded Tuem hospital will be delayed as the government wants to ensure top-class facilities for the people.
He informed that the Tuem hospital, built at a cost of Rs 120 crore, will not only be a district hospital, but a research centre as well. “This hospital building has not been handed over to the Directorate of Health Services. After taking possession, all facilities will be made available to people in this hospital. This hospital will start only after equipping the hospital with all facilities,” said Rane.
He also informed that priority would be given to provide employment opportunities to local candidates from Pernem taluka. “For this, local youth will be given necessary skills, so that they can work in various departments of the hospital,” he added.
