3 Bihar natives held for online gambling

The Cyber Crime Police Station, Ribandar, busted an illegal online cricket betting racket at Vasco, late on Friday night and arrested three persons from Bihar.

Acting on reliable information, a joint team raided a residential colony at Vaddem-Vasco and caught the accused red-handed while they were carrying out online betting operations.

Superintendent of Police (Cyber Crime Cell) Rahul Gupta stated that the arrested accused, identified as Ravindra Kumar Sharma, Sunil Kumar and Birendra Kumar Mondal (26) were found accepting cricket bets using multiple mobile phones, SIM cards registered in the names of different persons, computers and specialised communication equipment. “They also committed identity theft,” he added.

A total of 11 mobile phones, a laptop containing betting records and live updates, and two audio mixer/illegal telecommunication units (Hold Box) used for connecting mobile phones to manage betting operations were seized. Gupta said the accused have been booked under Section 66-C of the Information Technology Act (identity theft) and Sections 3 and 4 of the Goa Public Gambling Act. “We are committed to curbing illegal online gambling and cybercrime activities in the State. We also urge the citizens to remain vigilant and report such activities immediately to the Cyber Crime Helpline,” he said.
