MAPUSA
The Mapusa Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) has granted five days of police custody for a father-son duo accused of murdering their relative in cold blood at Parra.
The two accused – Sattya Nabarangpura and his son Thabir – are being investigated for the brutal killing of Droupada Naik, also originally from Odisha. According to police, the three men were working as labourers at a villa construction site in Parra and had been residing together in a temporary shelter near the project site.
While the motive for the murder remains under investigation, police sources indicated that the incident may have been triggered by a personal dispute, with preliminary findings suggesting that the victim was allegedly involved in an affair with the wife of the younger accused. This angle, police believe, could explain the targeted assault on the victim’s genitals.
Police have confirmed that the elder accused, Sattya, is the uncle of the deceased.
During the course of the investigation, officers recovered several suspected weapons from the crime scene, including a crowbar, a waist belt and a knife.
The accused were produced in court on Wednesday, where police sought custodial remand to conduct further interrogation and forensic examination of the recovered items.
The JMFC granted five days of police custody. The investigation is being led by the Mapusa Police, who have registered an offence under Section 302 of the BNS (murder).
