Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Monday announced doubling the intake of physiotherapy seats in Goa Medical College (GMC) from existing 10 to 20.

Rane said that GMC is expanding its capacity and introducing new avenues in healthcare education.

"This expansion reflects our commitment to strengthening healthcare education and empowering future healthcare professionals in Goa. With this increased capacity, more students can pursue their passion for physiotherapy and contribute to holistic patient care in the state," Rane said in a statement on X. GMC has also sought approval from the Goa University to introduce new postgraduate courses in Oncology and Psychiatric Medicine. Additionally, GMC aims to introduce a PG course in General Medicine to revive the tradition of family physicians.

GMC currently offers 29 postgraduate programs, including MD specializations, Master of Surgery courses, and diplomas in allied health sciences.

Meanwhile, Rane also announced that Goa has achieved the milestone of being the second-highest State in voluntary blood donation nationwide by collecting 20,582 units in 2023.

“Goa’s determined efforts to raise awareness about voluntary blood donation has helped save countless lives,” he said.
