Firmly ruling out plans to form a new political outfit in the state, Retired Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court, Justice Ferdino Rebello has on Saturday asserted that he has taken an oath as a Judge to defend the Constitution and not to break it.

He, however, said that political issues are bound to arise in every movement with the participation of the political parties. He clarified that members of the core group of the Enough is Enough movement are not members of any political party.

Speaking to the media after the meeting at Chandor organised by Ganv Bavancho Ekvott on Saturday, Justice Rebello said that he had held the office of Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court, the biggest high court. “I have taken oath to defend the Constitution. I will have to break the oath if I form a political party, but that is not for me”, he said, when the media asked whether the movement will culminated in the formation of a political party.

While  asserting that no member of the Core group of the movement is part of any political party, Justice Rebello said he has told those who were members to send in their resignations to their political parties. “The office bearers of the movement are not members of any political party. But, I want to say that every movement is a movement. Political parties are bound to join the movement. At the end of the day, political issues are bound to arise”, he said, while firmly ruling out the possibility of floating a political party.
