Red Run 2.0 to be held at Miramar to raise HIV/AIDS awareness

In a bid to raise HIV/AIDS related awareness, the national 'Red Run 2.0' will be held in Goa at dawn on Saturday at Miramar and is part of a nationwide effort to be held simultaneously in all States.

Goa Aids Control Soceity's (GSACS) project officer Dr Lalitha Humraskar said it is jointly hosted together with the National AIDS Control Organization (NACO).

Dr Humraskar who briefed the media on the event said, the 10 km race will be held in three categories -- women, men and third gender category.

Prizes of Rs.50,000, Rs 35,000 and Rs 25,000 will be given to the top three finishers in each category and the run route will stretch from the Miramar Circle on to the NIO circle and back to Miramar.

Additionally, a special two-km race is also being organized for the general public, disabled persons, police and government officials. 

A certificate and a medal will be given to those who complete the race, Dr Humraskar said, adding that Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane, Union Minister Shripad Naik, Rajya Sabha MP Sadanand Shet Tanawade, Union Secretary V Hekali Zhimomi, Nikhil Gajraj among others will will attend the event.

She said, the two-kilometre race will be flagged off 15 minutes after the main road race and more than a thousand runners have registered. 

In the main 10-km run, 190 runners will participate, she added.
