On the death anniversary of Abbé Faria, the pioneer of the scientific study of hypnotism, Madganvcho Awaaz and Youth Leader Prabhav Naik have called upon the Government of Goa to take urgent steps to restore and rejuvenate the iconic Abe de Faria Road in Margao.

“Once a cemented road gracefully lined with heritage houses, Abe de Faria Road was not just a passageway but a cultural landmark reflecting the rich history of Margao. Over the years, however, neglect and unplanned interventions have stripped the street of its original charm, reducing it to an ordinary thoroughfare”, Prabhav stated.

He said, “Abe de Faria’s contributions to the world go far beyond Margao or Goa. His pioneering work in the scientific study of hypnotism placed him on the global map of thinkers and innovators. It is only fitting that the road bearing his name reflects dignity, heritage, and cultural pride”.

Madganvcho Awaaz has stressed that heritage conservation must form an integral part of Margao’s urban development vision. Restoring Abe de Faria Road as a heritage street would not only honour the memory of this great son of Goa but also enhance tourism, local identity, and community pride.

Madganvcho Awaaz has appealed to the Government to work on a time-bound plan that includes heritage-sensitive street design, façade improvement of heritage houses, pedestrian-friendly pathways, and cultural signage, thereby transforming Abe de Faria Road into a landmark befitting the legacy of Abbé Faria.
