Acclaimed filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker has been appointed Festival Director of the 57th International Film Festival of India. He succeeds noted filmmaker Shekhar Kapur, who served as festival director for the 55th (2024) and 56th (2025) editions.
According to an official statement issued by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Gowariker was chosen in recognition of his distinguished contribution to Indian cinema and his long-standing association with IFFI and global film culture.
Reacting to the appointment, Gowariker said “It gives me immense pride and joy to serve as the Festival Director for the prestigious 57th International Film Festival of India, Goa. I feel privileged to have witnessed the evolution of this festival. From attending it in 1984 to continuing my association over the years, right up to 2024, when I served as the Jury President for International Cinema.”
He further added that carrying forward the legacy built since 1952 by numerous festival teams was a great honour and responsibility, and that he looked forward to working closely with the ministry and the Goa government.
Established in 1952, International Film Festival of India is one of Asia’s premier film festivals and serves as a major platform for showcasing global cinema while promoting cultural exchange.
