After Sarzora, villagers of Sao Jose de Areal are strongly opposing the government’s plan to set up a railway station in their village.
On Sunday, a group of villagers gathered at the Sao Jose de Areal Panchayat Ghar to send a clear message to the government—they do not want a railway station in their village.
Social activist Freddy Travasso said the village has already suffered due to poorly planned projects, including railway track doubling, a carbon factory, scrap yards, and stone quarries.
“If the government considers a railway station an infrastructure project, then what has it done to improve health facilities for villagers struggling with pollution?” he questioned.
Freddy urged Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to visit the village or send a minister to see the damage caused by these projects.
