PANAJI: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday said that a new Goa Lokayukta will be appointed soon. The post has been vacant for almost nine months since the tenure of Justice (retd) Ambadas Joshi ended in December 2024.
“Goa Lokayukta will be appointed at the earliest,” Sawant told reporters, without giving further details.
The state government has received the names of three retired judges—from Goa, West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh—for consideration. It has also sought more recommendations from the High Court and the Supreme Court before finalising the appointment.
In February, the Directorate of Vigilance had written to the Chief Secretary to shortlist retired high court judges for the post. A three-member committee, which includes the Chief Minister and the Leader of the Opposition, will make the final decision once a suitable candidate is identified.
