Anjuna police have booked a female driver hailing from Uttar Pradesh in connection with a hit-and-run accident in Siolim, causing serious injuries to a 73-year-old scooter rider from Siolim.
The accident took place near the Lakshminarayan temple in Marna-Siolim at about 8.30 am on Sunday, when Gajanan Moye was on his scooter. On the way, he had given a lift to a woman who was proceeding to the Siolim church for prayers.
A car struck the scooter from the rear and fled from the site. Moye sustained serious injuries, while the woman on the pillion escaped with minor injuries. Moye was moved to the Siolim Primary Health Centre, from where he was referred to the GMC hospital at Bambolim.
On receiving news of the incident, Anjuna police conducted a panchnama at the scene. They also verified CCTV footage in the area and identified the car involved in the hit-and-run incident.
Later, police seized the car and registered a case against the driver, Rhea Shukla of Uttar Pradesh. Further investigation is in progress.
