MAPUSA
At a time when politicians change party loyalties like changing shirts, Mapusa councilor, Tarak Arolkar who on Saturday said he would contest Independent in Aldona overnight changed his decision and jumped into the TMC bandwagon on Sunday.
He is likely to get the TMC ticket from Mapusa.
State TMC President, Kiran Kandolkar in presence of Member of Parliament and TMC desk in-charge Mahua Moitra inducted Arolkar into the party as a function in Panaji.
After the induction ceremony, the State Party President said that besides being a councilor, Tarak Arolkar is also a well-known social worker.
“Tarak is known in the whole of Goa and not only in Bardez. He is a Bhandari leader who has reached out to every segment of the society,” Kandolkar said.
For record, Tarak changed three parties within a year. He first joined BJP soon after getting elected as a councilor of Mapusa in May.
Just last month he hopped into the Congress hoping to get the party ticket from Aldona and on Sunday he joined the TMC.
Speaking on the occasion, Tarak said that he was working day and night in Aldona expecting a Congress ticket from the constituency.
“I was not given respect in Congress. Instead of giving the ticket to me they gave the ticket to an imported candidate who has been residing in Margao and camping in Aldona for the last one year,” Arolkar said.
He was a little hesitant while responding to media queries whether TMC had promised a ticket to him.
However, Kandolkar informed that Tarak Arolkar is a popular leader and can shoulder any responsibility assigned to him.
Sources informed that Arolkar was likely to get the TMC ticket from Mapusa.
On Saturday, Tarak had released a statement stating that he was contesting as Independent candidate from Aldona constituency.
