CANACONA
A Telangana-registered private car was stopped at the Polem check post after it was found with a ‘police’ sticker on Friday morning. The youth in the car were later made to remove the sticker before being allowed to enter Goa.

According to sources, the incident took place as the car had arrived from Karwar and was stopped for a check at the Polem check post, as part of enhanced security checks ahead of the Lok Sabha polls.

The police team became suspicious when they noticed a ‘police’ sticker along with a large ‘L’ pasted with red radium tape on the rear glass of the car.

The police on duty sought details regarding the police station associated with the vehicle and if the occupants in the car were police personnel.

The youth in the car were clueless and then claimed they were not familiar with Hindi, English, Konkani or Marathi.

One of the youths later spoke a few words in Hindi and English to explain that his father is a policeman in Telangana and that, the car is registered in his name.

When threatened of action for illegally displaying a ‘police’ sticker on the car in violation of the Motor Vehicle rules, the youth quickly began removing the ‘police’ sticker from the car.

The youth then pleaded for leniency and said he had no knowledge that affixing a ‘police’ sticker on a private car is illegal.

The youth were then allowed to proceed after removing the ‘police’ sticker from the car.

Incidentally, the Canacona police team has been joined by a CRPF platoon at Polem border check post to check and inspect every vehicle entering the State from Karnataka.

There is also a CEC order that anyone found with more than Rs 50,000 in cash would be asked to justify the source and purpose for the cash.
