Tough directions issued to tackle health concerns at Cutbona jetty

South Goa District Collector Egna Cletus, IAS, reviews the cholera/diarrhoea situation at the Cutbona jetty.

After the District Collector and Magistrate, South Goa, Egna Cletus, IAS, chaired a meeting to review the cholera and diarrhoea cases at the Cutbona Jetty, a host of directions were issued to the concerned departments.

Directions have been issued to put a mechanism in place where the boat owners take the migrant workers directly for screening and testing, and the same needs to be on a regular basis.

The Village Panchayat of Velim has been directed to undertake barbed wire fencing of the surrounding area at the Cutbona fishing jetty.

Security guards deployed by the GHRDC have been directed to maintain strict security arrangements at the jetty.

The Health Department has been entrusted with the responsibility to undertake health education awareness programmes for the migrant workers.

Besides free sanitation services for the migrant workers, directions have been issued for proper arrangement of garbage collection, processing and disposal of garbage by the Goa Waste Management Corporation (GWMC).

In another direction, the Land Survey Department has been told to complete the process of demarcation at the earliest.

The Police Department has been told to keep a strict check on the health cards issued to the workers on a regular basis.
