Man attacked by bear in Quepem farm, serious

A 50-year-old man was seriously injured after being attacked by a bear at his plantation at Kajur-Quepem on Saturday afternoon.

The incident took place at about 1 pm when Ramdas Laxman Velip had gone to work at his plantation, which is at some distance from his house.

While he was in the plantation, a bear suddenly pounced on him and attacked him, leaving him severely injured. Velip, however, managed to free himself from the bear and fled from the site.

A 108 ambulance later shifted him to the Quepem Primary Health Centre, from where he was referred to the GMC hospital for further treatment. On receiving information of the incident, a Quepem police team went to the site and conducted a panchanama.

According to locals, Kajur village is a forested area and a number of wild animals have been sighted in the area.
