Goans visiting Belagavi may find it difficult to get accommodation, as most hotels in the city are fully booked by government authorities for the monsoon session of the Karnataka State Legislative, which commences in Belagavi from June 29.
Karnataka government will hold 20-day monsoon session of the State assembly from June 29 to July 24.
The first 10 days of the session from June 29 to July 10 will be held at the Suvarna Vidhan Soudha in Belagavi, while the next days it would be held in Bangaluru from July 13 to 24. Intimation in this regard has been served by M Gururaja of Karnataka Legislative Assembly.
Karnataka State Legislature is bicameral and comprises legislative assembly or the lower house with 225 members and legislative council or the upper house comprising 75 members. The upper house is identified as Vidhana Parishad, while the lower house as Vidhan Sabha. Each year the assembly has to be in session for a minimum of 60 days.
This is the sixth session of the state legislature being held in Belagavi. With its panoramic structure of the Suvarna Vidhan Soudha located on the NH4, about 12 kms from the city, Belagavi is informally being identified as second capital of Karnataka. Earlier, the sessions were held in Belagavi in 2006, 2009, 2012, 2013 and 2014.
By holding the sessions of the state legislature in Belagavi, the Karnataka government is initiating to patch up the regional imbalance. Issues pertaining to north Karnataka are discussed on priority during this session.
Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister T B Jayachandra, who is overlooking the arrangements of the session, informed that in this session too the government will take up the developmental issues in the region.
Meanwhile, Belagavi city will be out of bounds for visitors from Goa and other places as all the hotels in the city are over booked.
“Apart from the state cabinet, MLAs, MLCs, secretaries, officials and other VVIPs will be in Belagavi, hence we have been directed to book all the hotels in the city from June 28 to July 10,” additional deputy commissioner Praveen Kumar told The Goan.
“As the city will be under high security cover on these days, there will be restriction on vehicular movement in and around the city. Apart from additional police officials from the neighbouring districts, police assistance has been also sought from neighbouring states of Karnataka and Goa at the border points,” he ascertained.
