The WRD-owned land at Pajimol has been encroached by some individuals.
SANGUEM
With the government having finalised a project of Tribal Village at Pajimol-Sanguem, efforts are allegedly being made by a person to encroach on 1,000 sq mtrs of Water Resources Department-owned land at Pajimol.
The area was cleaned a few days back and is allegedly kept ready for construction activity.
The encroacher has allegedly put up a shed-like structure of metal sheets in the encroached area and also managed to get a Sulabh Sauchalaya provided by the government agency in the very same plot.
The incidences of encroachment on WRD land in Sanguem is not new as some migrants who came to work as drivers and daily wage labourers at the time of construction of Selaulim Dam never left the temporary place which they occupied at the time of construction of Selaulim Dam.
Even after over 40 years of the construction of Selaulim Dam, these families continue to occupy prime space in the vicinity of Selaulim Dam and the WRD is entangled with a legal battle to drive them out as these labourers are now armed with electricity and water connections besides holding Aadhar, election and PAN cards at their present address.
In the recent case of encroachment, the encroachment is within walkable distance from the WRD office and the authorities seem to be taking the issue lightly.
When contacted by the local media, WRD Executive Engineer Sidney Fernandes said he is in the process of getting the area surveyed and added that any encroachments on government-owned land will be demolished.
