CANACONA

Claiming that 343 Kumeri cultivators from Gaondongrim and Khola in Canacona have been aawaiting Sanads of their Kumeri plots since 1988, the Gawada, Kunbi, Velip and Dhangar (GAKUVED) Federation has threatened to approach the court and to protest against authorities if the issue is not resolved within 30 days.

GAKUVED leaders along with a team comprising five advocates convened a meeting with 343 Kumeri cultivators of Canacona taluka.

GAKUVED Federation General Secretary Rupesh Velip said the 343 Kumeri cultivators had been awaiting Sanads since 1988 and accused successive governments of cheating people who had been allotted Kumeri lands in 1964 to cultivate cashew, mango, jackfruit and other agricultural produce.

“This land is in possession of these local cultivators and is the only source of livelihood of the families. Since the application were made for allotment of government land in 1988, subsequent government have only delayed in issuing Sanads to these Kumeri plots in the name of these Kumeri Cultivators.”

“Not issuing Sanads to these 343 Kumeri cultivators is purely infringement of the fundamental rights of the Gawada, Kunbi, Velip and Dhangar communities,” said Velip.

An advisory committee appointed consists of Uday Vasu Gaonkar, GAKUVED General Secretary Rupesh Velip, Rama Kankonkar, Ramkrishna Jhalmi, Durgadas Gaonkar, Govind Shirodkar, Ravindra Velip and Ritesh Velip.

The GAKUVED has submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, Revenue Minister, Secretary (Revenue) and Collector (South) demanding action within 30 days, failing which they have threatened to protest against authorities.
