Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said around 40,000 women have so far undergone free health check-ups under the ‘Checked by Doctor’, a special healthcare initiative for women.
He was speaking during the inauguration of various health schemes at the Community Health Centre in Sanquelim.
Sawant said he has launched a special scheme called ‘Checked by Doctor’ for women, after noticing that women in rural areas tend to neglect their health and often avoid regular medical check-ups.
“Under this scheme, awareness is being created to encourage all women in both rural and urban areas to undergo regular health check-ups. Regular health check-ups are very important for women. If women remain healthy, the entire family also stays healthy,” said the chief minister.
Stating that government hospitals as well as several private hospitals have agreed to provide women’s health check-ups in the State at affordable rates, he advised women to undergo health check-ups at least once a year.
Commenting on his government’s resolution to make Goa 100% TB-free, Sawant said cases of Tuberculosis (TB) are still being found in the State.
“The government is committed to making Goa completely TB-free. Necessary measures and campaigns are being implemented for this purpose,” said Sawant.
He also informed that a special vaccination campaign to prevent cervical cancer has been launched under the initiative of Narendra Modi.
“The vaccine is completely safe, and girls in the age group of 14-18 years should take this vaccine,” he said.
On the occasion, Health Officer Dr Atul Pai Bir provided detailed information about the scheme. BJP President Rama Naik, Sarpanch Gauravi Naik, BJP leader Yogita Haldankar, Councillor Vinanti Parsekar, Kranti Navelkar, and other dignitaries were also present at the event.
