In accordance with the National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professions Act, 2021, the State of Goa has constituted the Goa State Allied and Healthcare Council with Dr Bharati Chavan as chairperson.
A total of 57 allied and healthcare professions have been categorised under 10 broad groups by the National Commission, with representation ensured from each category as per eligibility norms.
The Council held its first meeting on February 16, 2026, at the Goa Medical College, where members were briefed on its roles, responsibilities and functions.
During the meeting, Secretary Sudesh Gaude presented the “One Nation, One Syllabus” initiative. Curricula for 15 professions have already been approved by the National Commission. Around six professional courses are expected to be introduced in the academic year 2026–27, subject to approvals from the State Council and other competent authorities.
The Council emphasised that only institutes adhering to prescribed curricula and mandatory norms will be registered. Students graduating from recognised institutes will be eligible to practise as allied healthcare professionals.
Practitioners such as physiotherapists, occupational therapists, clinical and psychiatric social workers, optometrists, psychologists and counsellors will be required to register with the Council to practise in the State.
All qualified professionals have been advised to enrol on the National Commission’s official portal for verification and registration.
The meeting was attended by the Dean of Goa Medical College, Directors (Academics), Dr Rajnanda Dessai, and other members of the Council.
