Cable-laying work leaves Valpoi walkway unusable

The pedestrian pathway near the bridge has been blocked due to cable-laying work, causing inconvenience and safety risks for citizens.

VALPOI
Residents in the Valpoi municipality have expressed strong dissatisfaction after a pedestrian pathway near the bridge, adjacent to the Sattari Taluka Shetkari Seva Sahakari Society, was blocked due to the laying of underground electric cables.

The pathway has been dug up and obstructed, causing significant inconvenience to the public.

As a result, pedestrians are now forced to use the main road to cross the bridge, increasing the risk of accidents. Citizens have demanded that the cables be removed immediately and that a safe and smooth walkway be restored for pedestrians.

They have also appealed to municipal authorities to take urgent note of the issue and instruct the department concerned accordingly.

An underground utility work is being carried out across various parts of the taluka, leading to widespread inconvenience. Roads have been dug up at multiple locations, and roadside trenches have increased the likelihood of accidents.

Despite such conditions persisting for the past eight months in Sattari taluka, authorities appear to have neglected the situation.

An alternative pedestrian path had been created near the bridge in the municipal area. However, the same path has now been obstructed due to cable-laying work, making it impossible for pedestrians to use. Consequently, people are compelled to walk along the main road, which is heavily trafficked, posing serious safety concerns.

During the recent Shigmo festival, residents faced considerable hardship. With the main road occupied by processions, the alternative route was essential. However, due to its blockage, pedestrians had no choice but to risk using the busy road.

Although the pedestrian pathway was used for laying cables, residents believe that an alternative arrangement could have been made.

Residents felt the Valpoi Municipal Council should have raised objections and issued notices to authorities concerned, while the deputy collector, Mamlatdar, and police should have also paid closer attention to the matter.
