The Goa legislative assembly on Friday passed a resolution hailing Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his “efforts to resolve the long-pending issue of the construction of the Ram temple” in Ayodhya.
Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar moved a private member resolution: “The House unanimously resolved to congratulate Prime Minister Narendra Modiji for his dedicated efforts to resolve the long-pending issue of the construction of the Ram temple at Ram Janmabhoomi, Ayodhya. In doing so, the Government has resonated with the sentiments of crores of citizens irrespective of caste, creed, gender, or religion. The Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir is going to be the nation’s best example of communal harmony.”
Speaking on the motion, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said that the people of the country congratulate the PM for dedicating this temple to the nation. “It is a temple of the nation. It resonates with the feelings of people from all religions,” he said.
Before that, the opposition demanded that Lord Ram should be kept out of politics.
AAP MLA Venzy Viegas said that the sentiments of Lord Ram are beyond religion, caste, creed, and place of residence, and that he refused to bring the Lord into the state assembly to prove his faith.
Congress MLA Alton D’Costa said that the people of India should take the credit for the Ram temple and not one single individual.
“I humbly appeal to keep Lord Ram out of politics. No individual can take the credit; it is only due to Lord Ram’s wish that the temple be built and support from the people,” he said.
The MLA also recalled that it was during the tenure of former Congress PM Rajiv Gandhi that the locks of the Ram temple were first opened and the foundation stone was laid.
