BA LLB row: Kare law college principal, librarian suspended

The Management of Vidya Vikas Mandal has placed under suspension the officiating Principal of Govind Ramnath Kare College of Law, Margao Prof. Saba da Slva and the college librarian Anand Salve as per the recommendations of the General Council of the Goa University.

President of VVM Nitin Kunkolienkar signed the suspension orders of the officiating Principal and the Librarian and which have come into force with immediate effect.

In separate orders, Kunkolienkar further ordered that during the period the suspension, both Saba and Anand shall not leave the headquarters without the permission of the competent authority and neither shall enter the college premises without obtaining prior written permission from the President or Secretary VVM.

The action comes after the Executive Council of the Goa University informed the President of VVM its decision to recommend that the Management of G R Kare College of Law, Margao, should place under

suspension Dr Saba Da Silva, Officiating Principal of the G R College of Law, and Anand Salve, the College Librarian.

The Council had further resolved to ask the College that disciplinary action should be initiated for the award of appropriate (major) penalty by considering the gravity of the situation and seriousness of the issue involved.

“In the report submitted by the Fact-Finding High Level Committee constituted on behalf of the executive ouncil of the Goa University relating to the matter pertaining to student admissions to

BA LLB programme conducted at the affiliated colleges, there are grave accusations made against Dr Saba Da Silva and Anand Salve, including accusations of manipulation of records. Considering the severe

and serious accusations made in the report against the duo, it has been decided to initiate disciplinary action against the duo”, Kuncolienkar stated in his separate orders.

Da Silva as head of the Kare College was in-charge of conducting the Goa University's General Law Admission Procedure (GUCLAT) 2023 examination, which originally stipulated proportional weightage to marks obtained at the HSSCE as well as the entrance test.
