Voicing outrage after the Mopa airport was named after former chief minister late Manohar Parrikar, the Bhausaheb Bandodkar Vimantal Namkaran Samiti has stated that Goa’s first chief minister late Dayanand (Bhausaheb) Bandodkar’s contribution to the State would not be belittled even if the airport was not named after him.

Addressing a news conference in Malpe-Pernem in the presence of Bodgeshwar Shetakari Sanghatana’s Sanjay Barde, Vinayak Chari, Narayan Gadekar and others, the Samiti President Subhash Kerkar warned that Goans would respond to the BJP government at the upcoming parliament elections.

Speaking further, Kerkar said the people of Goa are aware of Bhausaheb’s contribution towards the development of the State.

“Even though 80 percent of the people demanded that the airport be named after Bandodkar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his speech mentioned that he is pleased to name the airport after his late friend (Manohar Parrikar),” said Kerkar.

Vinayak Chari accused the BJP government of acting against the Goans.

Chari pointed out that those who lost their land for the Mopa project have not received fair treatment and are still fighting for justice.

“The government has not supported them and the tall promises made by politicians have all faded,” he lamented.

Mapusa Bodgeshwar Shetakari Sanghatana President Sanjay Barde also lashed the government for not looking after the welfare of the poor and marginalised.
