The Bastora panchayat on Friday took up key work of installing CCTV cameras at five different garbage dumping spots, including the Tar River Ganesh immersion site, while taking up various works totalling to about Rs 20 lakh in the village.
Sarpanch Angela Martins informed that installation of surveillance cameras has been carried out with the sole intention to warn the public not to dump waste in the open.
“Our aim is not to trouble anyone. That is not our objective. The sole aim to fix these cameras is to keep our village clean and to make people aware that henceforward they should not dump waste in the open,” Martins said.
Former Aldona MLA and State BJP Vice President Glenn Ticlo inaugurated the various works taken up in Bastora in presence of Sarpanch Angela Martins, Deputy Sarpanch Sunita Lotlikar, ex-sarpanch Savio Martins and other panchayat members.
Speaking further, the Sarpanch said that anyone who is caught dumping waste on the cameras will be issued a penalty as recommended by the government and requested people not to dump waste at the spots.
She said a lot of outsiders were dumping waste near the Ganesh immersion site near the Tar river and the Bastora village was invariably blamed for the mess.
She further informed that the panchayat members have taken a resolution to henceforward lock the gate to the Ganesh immersion site which will be opened only during functions.
Former Aldona MLA and BJP Vice President Glenn Ticlo thanked Panchayats Minister Mauvin Godinho for giving administrative approval and expenditure sanction to various works taken up in the village.
“We have taken up various works totalling to around Rs 20.69 lakh in the Bastora village. I am grateful to the government. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and Panchayats Minister Mauvin Godinho have helped us in allocation of funds to take up the works,” Ticlo said.
The various works were taken up in the village were repair and asphalting of existing road from Pednekar house upto Ramesh Matkar house (Ward 3), reconstruction of footpath and installation of pavers from Sushila Dhamapurkar upto main road at Birmottem (Ward 3), reconstruction of existing drain with precast slabs from Sushil Salkar house upto Sushma Chari house 20-point programme, at Boa-Vista (Ward 4), repair and installation of precast slabs on existing drain from Gopal Belgaonkar house upto Nakul Kavthankar house 20-point programme Boa-Vista (Ward 6), improvement of existing road by installation of pavers from Sanjay Arolkar house upto Devendra Sawant house at 20-point programme at Boa-Vista (Ward 6), installation of convex mirrors opposite Union Bank of India, Boa-Vista and near Mario house Santa Cruz, Bastora and no dumping garbage boards under corporate social responsibility activity and installation of CCTV cameras at Menezes vaddo, Xell, Boa-Vista and Moira road in the jurisdiction of Bastora panchayat.
Former sarpanch and Convenor for Development Works, Savio Martins said more works totalling to around Rs 80 lakh will also be taken up in the village in another fortnight.
