Milk and milk product supplies to Goa are expected to be boosted, with the KMF planning to set up a mega dairy in Belagavi.
Bhalchandra Jarkiholi, chairman of Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF), the producer of Nandini brand of milk and milk products in the region, said construction of the dream project would begin soon.
“KMF is a major supplier of milk and milk products to Goa and has mustered a profit of Rs 130 crores,” said Jarkiholi, while speaking at the inauguration of the All India Cooperative Week at the Belagavi Centre of the KMF.
“By taking all 14 unions of the state into confidence, KMF could fulfil the government's commitment to procure milk and distribute 2 crore litres of milk to the people during the lockdown, thus standing firmly during the Covid crisis,” Jarkiholi said.
He also informed that construction of a mega-dairy on sprawling hundred acres in Belagavi is expected to commence soon.
Speaking on the occasion, Karnataka Minister for Cooperatives S T Somashkehar said the government has decided to provide loans of Rs 15,300 crore to farmers through all DCC banks in the state.
KMF Belagavi Chairman and MLC Vivek Patil, Minister Shashikala Jolle, Rajya Sabha MP Iranna Kadadi, KMF MD Ubedulla Khan and former MLA Sanjay Patil were present on the occasion.
