The Cavelossim Village Panchayat on Monday carried forward the process initiated by the Fisheries Department in respect of the survey carried out by the department regarding the houses and activities of the fishing communities in the village.
Cavelossim Sarpanch Dixon Vaz convened a meeting on Monday with members of the fishing communities to ensure that none of the members were left out of the survey carried out by the Fisheries Department.
The Sarpanch told the media that, as per the directions of the Fisheries Department, a house-to-house survey was conducted in the village on the fishing communities. “Today, we have shown the people the names along with survey numbers and the draft copy so that no one is left out. If anyone is still left out, we will request the department to do another survey,” Dixon said.
He added, “Most of the members of the communities attended in large numbers and expressed satisfaction over the survey. We have received more names which were missing. We have taken note of the same. We will request the department to include them as well, along with their documents,” the Sarpanch said.
On the occasion, the Cavelossim Sarpanch urged the government to give relief to the fishing communities in the village who have been adversely hit by the CRZ notification.
“These communities, including the fishermen and the toddy tappers, have been hit by the CRZ notification as they cannot repair their houses, let alone extend them to cater to growing families,” Dixon said, while urging the government to resolve the issues facing the fishing communities by protecting their interests.
