Town and Country Planning Minister Vijai Sardesai on Friday said the TCP Act will be amended to make it mandatory for the housing societies to install Closed Circuit TV (CCTV) surveillance cameras in and around the buildings.
In fact, he said that installation of the CCTV cameras by the housing societies will be one of the conditions the department will impose before issuing the construction license. "I am of the strong opinion that CCTVs will help keep a track of anti-socials and also keep the burglars at bay. A watchman in a residential society will be an added advantage, but CCTV surveillance cameras will be made mandatory in the license condition," he said.
The TCP Minister said the installation of the CCTV surveillance cameras in Fatorda constituency will commence around mid-November. "The process towards the installation of the 250 CCTV cameras was complete long ago, but the execution was kept on hold due to the intervening FIFA U-17 World Cup matches at the Nehru stadium since the work involved road digging," he said.
Meanwhile, the TCP Minister said that the GSIDC has roped in a Spanish consultancy L K S Consultants to take up work on the development of heritage area in and around the Old market area.
"We have also planned an entry gate to the City as part of the beautification plan. The tenders for the shifting and development of the two Chapels at Madel and near the Nehru stadium have been floated. Land filling work has commenced for the development of the parking lot at the old market area," the TCP Minister told the media.
