The Village Panchayat of Chinchinim-Deussua launched a proactive initiative to report water leakage to address water conservation and reduce wastage within its jurisdiction.
The initiative aimed to involve the local community in identifying and reporting water leakages to their respective ward members, ensuring timely repairs and preventing the loss of valuable water resources.
The panchayat called upon all villagers to be vigilant and report any visible signs of water leakage — whether from public pipelines or community taps — to their ward representatives. The collected reports will be systematically addressed by the panchayat in coordination with the PWD (Water Supply) to ensure swift action and repair.
Speaking on the occasion, the Sarpanch Frank Viegas along with panch members highlighted the importance of community participation in preserving water resources, emphasising that “Every drop counts, the climate crisis is a water crisis, let’s save water. By acting together and addressing leakages promptly, we can save tonnes of water and contribute to a sustainable future for our village.”
Sanjay Pagi technical assistant PWD Water Supply applauded the panchayat for taking the initiative and responsibility to address water leakages in the area.
The initiative was well-received by the residents, who had shown enthusiasm in supporting the cause. The panchayat expressed gratitude to the villagers for their cooperation and assured them that follow-ups would be conducted to monitor the progress of repairs and the overall impact on water conservation.
This community-driven approach reflects the panchayat’s commitment to fostering environmental responsibility and ensuring a reliable water supply for future generations.
