After the successful completion of the nationwide civil defence mock drill held yesterday, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant assured that Goa is fully prepared to deal with any emergency situation.
“We are fully prepared to handle any emergency, whether it’s a bomb blast at the airport or the collapse of the Mandovi bridge,” Sawant said while speaking to the media today.
He further mentioned that both districts are on high alert, with all agencies, including the coast guard and police, fully activated due to Goa’s coastal status.
The civil defence drill, conducted across 244 locations as directed by the Home Ministry, saw active participation from both North and South Goa, designated as civil defence districts.
Following Central guidelines, Goa Police have increased visibility and patrols, especially in areas popular with tourists.
“We are strengthening security in both districts during the day and night,” said Director General of Police (DGP) Alok Kumar. “Wherever there is a need to increase visibility, all necessary actions have been taken.”
Kumar also noted that while the State is receiving ongoing directives from the Centre, “we cannot reveal them at this point due to sensitivity reasons.”
Op Sindoor is a message against terrorism, not religion: CM
Sawant also spoke about the unity and diversity of the armed forces. He pointed out that one of the officers in the operation was from the Muslim community. “Operation Sindoor makes it clear that our fight is against terrorism, not against any religion,” Sawant stated.
Operation Sindoor was launched by the Indian armed forces in response to a recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which killed 26 civilians. Early on Wednesday morning, missile strikes hit nine terror targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, destroying major terror camps. “There is no place for terrorism in India,” Sawant declared. “Under PM Narendra Modi’s leadership, the nation is emerging stronger, more resilient, and determined to eliminate the threat of terrorism.”
