AAP MLA Venzy Viegas has launched a public initiative to help Goans struggling with what he termed inflated electricity bills, urging consumers to WhatsApp copies of their bills to 7277134134 for assistance.
Viegas raised the issue during Zero Hour in the Goa Legislative Assembly, saying the sharp rise in electricity charges had created anxiety among people, particularly the common consumer who is finding it increasingly difficult to cope with higher monthly bills.
“The common man is under pressure due to the high rise in electricity cost, which is affecting the consumer in a big way,” Viegas said.
He pointed out that consumers were not only paying higher electricity charges but were also burdened by additional components such as Fuel and Power Purchase Cost Adjustment (FPPCA) and electricity duty.
According to Viegas, even households with modest electricity requirements are now receiving bills ranging from around Rs 1,000 to Rs 7,000, putting considerable financial pressure on families.
The MLA also cautioned that the issue could worsen, claiming that the prevailing electricity rates have been fixed for the next five years and that consumers could face further increases thereafter.
Against this backdrop, Viegas said he was launching the WhatsApp initiative as a direct channel for consumers facing unusually high or inflated bills.
He appealed to people to simply send a copy of their electricity bill to 7277134134 on WhatsApp so that their grievances could be examined and assistance provided.
The initiative comes amid growing concern among consumers over electricity bills, with Viegas seeking to turn individual grievances into a larger public issue by documenting complaints received directly from households.
