To which he replies that the Clube which was established in 1926 by local citizens was initially called Clube de Gaspar Dias. It was only because of Josephine Hogaz, an American Industrial magnate who introduced tennis in Goa by financing the first court at the Clube in 1934 that tennis found its origin among the club members which subsequently found an introduction of another court on its premises that eventually led to the growth of the sport elsewhere in the State.” He goes on to state that the Clube which has a strength of 2000 members aims to promote, develop and encourage sport, apart from a host of other cultural activities with its affiliation to clubs across Goa to even overseas. Speaking further on their infrastructure, besides the two tennis courts, he says there are facilities for squash, badminton, table tennis, snooker, billiards, a gymnasium, a cards room and a swimming pool.
