Mormugao Police have registered a case of cheating and criminal misappropriation involving gold ornaments worth about Rs 22 lakh. According to the complaint, Prajyot Naik of Cansaulim had taken a loan against gold ornaments weighing 171.51 grams from a jewellery shop in Sada.
After repaying the loan, he allegedly found that the full quantity of pledged gold had not been returned.
Police said the accused, Bhimappa Yallappa Chalwadi of Headland Sada, Vasco, allegedly returned only 43 grams of gold ornaments, while the remaining 128.51 grams, valued at around Rs 22 lakh, were not returned.
The complainant alleged that the accused cheated him and dishonestly misappropriated the gold ornaments entrusted to him. Based on the complaint, Mormugao Police registered an offence against the accused under Sections 314, 316(5) and 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
The investigation is being carried out by PSI Suraj Naik of Mormugao Police Station under the supervision of PI Sheriff Jacques and the guidance of Mormugao DySP Gurudas Kadam.
