While maintaining their strict adherence to punctuality, the Delhi Police Training Academy is actively exploring ways to modify the menu to suit the constable recruits from Goa. The institute has formed a committee to consider meals with Goan taste.

The menu, sources said, will have both vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes but the nutritious value of the food will not be negotiated. The North Indian protein-rich veg cuisines will simultaneously continue.

“Some candidates are hospitalized for indigestion and fever. They are under proper care. Our trainees will take time to adjust to the local cuisines there. However, given that the Academy has agreed to Goa Police’s request to include non-veg food, a committee is formed to decide the menu,” a senior officer said.

It is learnt that the ingredients and cooking style of the Goan region might be included to keep them close to their home State. Special Commissioner of Delhi Police (Training) Mukesh Kumar Meena, personally looking into the matter, also visited the recruits.

The hard water, which also led to digestion issues, was last weekend replaced with RO water plant and the former samples are sent for testing on instructions of the academy chief.

“Goans are not used to hard water. The trainees are making the best use of RO water,” an officer said.

The academy has however not compromised on punctuality as the reporting time at 6:30 am remains unchanged besides theory and drills being conducted at its usual slated time.
