Congress played caste & religion politics this election: CM Sawant

Panaji: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has come down heavily on the Congress alleging the opposition party played religion and caste politics during the Lok Sabha polls. The State concluded its single-phase voting on Tuesday with a record turnout.

At a press conference held in the BJP headquarters in Panaji, Sawant slammed that Congress has deviated from raising issues on development during the elections.

"Instead of focussing on development, Congress played religion and caste politics all through this election," Sawant alleged.

He further expressed confidence that BJP will clinch victory with over one lakh and 60,000 vote margin in North and South parliamentary seats respectively.

"Congress had already accepted defeat... INDIA alliance will dissolve after the results," he added.

BJP State President Sadanand Shet Tanavade, also present at the briefing, attributed the huge turnout of voters to the hard work and campaigning efforts of thr ministers, party MLAs and workers.

North Goa candidate Shripad Naik, who has contested for the sixth time, reiterated this is his last election, which he has conveyed to party high command for a final decision.
