With Salpem farmers crying foul over the discharge of sewage in the fields taken up for cultivation this season, Margao MLA Digambar Kamat along with officials of various government agencies descended at Sirvodem area to take stock of the situation.
The farmers made a fervent plea to the MLA and the officials to ensure that the sewage is plugged immediately to pave way for the tractors to enter the fields.
Even as the agencies have pushed the buck on the housing societies to repair the damaged sewage chambers and to connect the chambers to the underground line, the MLA is believed to have issued instructions to the PWD officials to take up the work departmentally.
Farmers told the media that they have called for immediate action in the matter since they have started the ploughing operation to bring additional fallow land in the Salpem lake under cultivation. “We have appealed to the authorities to give us immediate relief and not to pass the buck on each other. For, we have to plough the fields ahead of the coming season,” they insisted.
