Police recover suicide note; no foul play suspected

Investigators suspect that depression following a failed relationship may have led 26-year-old BITS Pilani Goa PhD scholar Arjun Sabu to end his life at a rented flat near the campus on Wednesday.
Police sources said a suicide note recovered from the room stated that no one should be held responsible for his death. Arjun had also allegedly written that he was “very sorry” for taking the decision. Police have ruled out any foul play.
Police said the post-mortem was completed on Thursday and the body was later handed over to the family for the last rites, which are expected to take place in his native Wayanad district in Kerala.
Arjun Sabu, a second-year PhD scholar at the BITS Pilani Goa campus, was found dead at the rented accommodation near
the institute.
Sources linked to the investigation said Sabu had reportedly been suffering from depression after the end of a long-term relationship around a year ago, when his girlfriend moved to a European country.
Investigators recovered a one-page suicide note from the room. According to sources, Sabu wrote that no one should be blamed for his death and expressed regret over taking the extreme step.
Sabu had been staying in Goa since January 2025. He is survived by his parents and a married sister living abroad.
The incident has once again raised concerns over a series of student suicides linked to the prestigious institute. Police have completed the inquest and other formalities in connection with the case.
