MARGAO
In a major development, Town Planner, Margao has issued a notice to a Mumbai-based real estate developer to show cause within 15 days why the technical clearance given for the construction of 28 villas at Chandor village should not be revoked given the observations made by the local panchayat and allegations of encroachment in the property.
The company has been further directed to stop the ongoing construction work immediately and comply in the matter with the town planner warning that action deemed fit will be initiated in the event of failure to comply with the order.
The town planner’s action comes days after the controversial matter was discussed at the Town and Country Planning Board at its 201st TCP Board meeting and directed the Margao TCP office to issue a show cause notice and withdraw the technical clearance granted if it was found to have been obtained by misrepresentation of facts by producing wrong plans and areas statement.
Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao, who represents the Cuncolim constituency, has said the government should immediately revoke the technical clearance order issued to the company, saying such a huge residential colony does not augur well for a village, which has been declared as a heritage village.
Yuri said he had taken up the matter with TCP Minister Vishwajit Rane after Chandor villagers submitted a memorandum to him to scrap the residential villa project. “I demand that the process initiated by the TCP is taken to the logical conclusion and to preserve the heritage village of Chandor for posterity,” he added.
The TCP had granted the Mumbai-based company the technical clearance order for the proposed construction of 28 residential villas, besides a compound wall on February 21, 2023 in the property at Chandor.
In his notice, Surlakar stated that the TCP office was in receipt of a complaint dated May 30, 2024, from Atalie Barreto stating that the company had allegedly encroached into his property despite having partition, mutation and demarcation done through proper channels.
