Two friends were allegedly cheated of lakhs of rupees after being promised jobs in the United Kingdom. They travelled abroad but were left without any employment and had to stay there at their own cost.
The incident dates back to August 6, 2025, at Baina in Vasco. The accused, Staney George of Vadem, Vasco, allegedly lured the complainant, Jaffar Sadiq Khatib of Baina, and his friend, Juber Sadik, by assuring them of overseas jobs.
The accused allegedly arranged their visas and air tickets, and sent them to Gatwick in the United Kingdom.
According to the complaint, the accused later convinced the complainant’s brother, Inayatullah Khatib, and Juber Sadik’s wife, Rubina Shaikh, to pay Rs 4.5 lakh each as professional fees for arranging the jobs.
After reaching the UK, the two men were allegedly made to stay there for nearly five months at their own expense, on the assurance that jobs would be arranged soon.
Police said no employment was ever provided and the accused also failed to return the money, causing financial loss and hardship to the victims.
