Says responsibility should be fixed in bhandara mishap
CANACONA
Gaondongrim Sarpanch Dhillon alias Yashwant Desai has demanded a thorough enquiry and investigation into the death of a worker at the construction site of a bhandara at Talem- Gaondongrim on Sunday evening.
Dessai said a thorough enquiry is needed to ascertain how the accident took place, and whether proper precautions, safety measures and proper supervision were in place at the construction site.
“Responsibility should also be fixed in the mishap to avoid future such incidents,” Dessai said.
The construction of a bhandara was taken up by the Water Resources Department (WRD) at Apeval in the Talem area of Gaondongrim village a fortnight ago.
While work of the bhandara was in progress, the crevice on the upper side collapsed and trapped two of the three workers who were reportedly working at the basement.
The workers trapped under the pile of mud were later taken out with the help of a JCB machine and co-workers.
Rajesh Ghatwal (29) died on the spot while another worker, Vishal Ghatwal, was first shifted to the CHC Canacona and later referred to the South Goa District Hospital at Margao, where he is undergoing treatment.
Meanwhile, investigating officer and Canacona PSI Suhas Velip informed the body was sent for an autopsy and later handed over to the family, who took the body for final rites in West Bengal.
A team of 15 workers from West Bengal, mostly consisting of Ghatwal family members, had come to Goa and joined the construction work of the newly constructed Bhandara on February 21.
Rajesh, who was married a year ago, had left home and his pregnant wife in West Bengal, to join the group for a construction job in Goa. Canacona police is conducting further investigation in the case.
