Goa Board warns against denial of admissions to students with disabilities

The Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education has warned institutions against denial of admissions to students with disabilities.

The warning has been issued following a circular issued by the Department of Social Welfare regarding denial of admissions by some educational institutions to persons with disabilities.

Goa Board Secretary V B Naik in directions to schools cities mandate under Section 16(i) of the Right of Persons with Disabilities (RPwD) Act, 2016. A similar warning to institutions was issued last year too.

“As mandated in Section 16 of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016, it is mandatory on the part of educational institutions to provide inclusive education to children with disabilities in all schools, and in no way admission can be denied on the grounds of disability,” the Board said.

“Failure to comply with the directives will be dealt as per Section 89 of the Right to Persons with Disabilities Act 2016 without any further notice against the institutions denying the admissions to such students,” the Board said further.
