Goa Velha to clash with Churchill Bros in opener at Duler

The Goa Police will organize the 13th edition of Goa Police Football Cup, 2015 from August 1 to 16 with the inauguration on Aug 1 at 3.30pm at Duler Stadium, Mapusa in the presence of DGP/IGP, Goa. Goa Velha Sports Club will clash with Churchill Bros Sports Club in the opener.
In all 10 teams will participate in the tournament which includes eight professional teams namely Dempo Sports Club, Churchill Bros, Salgaocar Football Club,Vasco Sports Club, Tuff Laximi Sports Club, Guardian Angels Sports Club, Curtorim Gymkhana, Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim and 1st Division Teams namely Goa Velha Sports Club and Goa Police Sports Club. The matches will be played all across Goa on knock out basis on following football grounds. Entry will be free for football lovers.
The Goa Police Football Cup was initially started in the year 1968 and the main motive behind organizing this mega event is to build and develop police public relation.The last edition of this cup was won by Vasco Sports Cup and the runners-up were Sesa Goa Football Club.
The Police Cup has a history of being one of the oldest football tournaments in India with a tallest 5 feet 5 inches silverware trophy being awarded to the winners in any football tournaments played in India. The said trophy has been donated by Shantillal Gosalia at the time of organizing the first edition of this cup and since then it has been pride of this mega event.
For the present edition, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar has consented to be the chief guest for the final match which will be played on August 19 at Duler/Tilak Maidan at 4pm.
The winners of the cup will be awarded a cash prize of Rs 2,00,000 along with prestigious 5’ 5’’ silverware Rolling Trophy and the runners-up will be awarded with a cash prize of Rs 1,00,000 along with a trophy. Also a special prize consisting of Rs 10,000 & a trophy will be awarded to the highest goal-scorer of the tournament.
