Calling the Technology Hub a boon to the State, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar announced that the foundation stone for the Electronic System Designs Manufacturing (ESDM), the Electronic City, will be laid in a month's time depending on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's schedule.

The Technology Hub is to be set up in Tuem with Telangana as the knowledge partner.

Parsekar was addressing a gathering of IT entrepreneurs, MAIT officials and other dignitaries after inking the MoU with Telangana government for setting up the Technology Hub and simultaneously with MAIT -- the latter who will provide support towards development of IT industry in Goa.

Parsekar termed the MoU as 'historic' while claiming that Goa is a fast-developing State with strong GDP, surplus power, cent per cent electrification, good social, industrial infrastructure and youthful resources. He, however, lamented the fact that the State was lagging behind in IT sector.

The CM told the audience that 2000 students pass out from the State in IT but hardly get jobs in Goa. “So, the government decided to lay emphasis on this sector by planning an Electronic City on 150 acres and IT Park on 100 acres in Tuem. The consultants have been appointed, development works started, provision of power has been made and we propose to lay the foundation stone for the ESDM in a month's time depending on PM's schedule,” the CM remarked.

“The signing of the MoU with Telangana and MAIT is a historic event and will take Goa to greater heights and will also benefit young entrepreneurs in start ups,” CM said.

Earlier, Telangana's IT Minister, K T Rama Rao claimed that skilled manpower is an important requirement for the IT industry while also urging Parsekar to create a feeling in the local manpower about their wanting to turn into entrepreneurs. Highlighting the need for a start-up and entrepreneurial culture in India, Rama Rao said he would like to see the Technological Hub in Goa leveraging creative minds of the State.

He said the Telangana has eight sectoral policies like the start ups Policy, Rural Technology Policy and Technical Development Centres. “Four new policies have also been launched recently. They are the Cyber Security Policy which is the first such Policy of any State, Data Centre Policy, State Data Analytics Policy,” he added, while claiming that ESDM could be a good sector for Goa. “I am happy to know that Goa has marked an area for ESDM in the Electronic Park,” he stated.

Those who addressed the gathering included State Chief Secretary R K Srivastava. MAIT Chairperson Debjani Ghosh, IT secretary of Telangana Jayesh Ranjan, IT secretary of Goa Amey Abhyankar and former GCCI president Nitin Kunkolienkar were also present.
