The State will consider recommending the name of singer Lorna Cordeiro for the Padma award next year, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said on Friday.

Sawant was responding to such a request from one Agustin Dias from Parra on his monthly ‘Hello Goenkar’ phone-in programme on Goa Doordarshan Kendra.

Sawant said, the deadline for the recommendation this year has already passed but definitely next year the State government will take a serious look at Lorna’s name.

He added that it is a matter of pride that Lorna’s voice has mesmerised many here in Goa and across the country and world.

Meanwhile, responding to another query from a citizen, Sawant said, reservations for women in some otherwise male dominion jobs like forest guards and fire-fighters will soon be a reality in Goa.

He made the statement in response to a demand from a caller to ensure some of the slots in the 90 drivers’ recruitment by Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited are allotted to women drivers.

Sawant said, not just jobs but even political reservations for women to become MLAs and MPs is being espoused by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Addressing yet another caller, Sawant said ensuring that piped water reaches plots developed from the PWD pipeline along the main road is also the responsibility of the developer. Responding to the caller’s a query from a resident of Alto-Santa Cruz, Sawant however said that he will pay attention to the specific issue and try to resolve it.
