Goa Governor PS Sreedharan Pillai and CM Pramod Sawant extended their greetings on the occasion of Goa Revolution Day on Tuesday.

In his message, Governor said, “The Goa Revolution Day or ‘Kranti Din’ is an appropriate occasion to remember the supreme  sacrifices of known and unknown freedom fighters who shed their blood for the freedom of Goa from colonial rule. June 18 is a  significant day in the Goan history. On this day in 1946, the seeds of revolution were sown as Dr Ram Manohar Lohia along with local leaders and the brave citizens of Goa, ignited a movement that eventually ended with the  liberation of Goa on December 19, 1961. Their courage and determination remind us of the indomitable spirit that lies  within each one of us”.

CM Sawant echoed these sentiments, recalling Dr Lohia’s call for freedom on June 18, 1946, and bravery of Goans like Dr Juliao Menezes in the struggle against Portuguese rule. He urged everyone to honour sacrifices of freedom fighters and strive for Goa’s progress towards a developed India by 2047.

“Let us remember the sacrifices of our freedom fighters, who sacrificed their lives bravely and selflessly so that we could live in a free land. Let us show our gratitude by rededicating ourselves to ensure Goa marches ahead in all spheres of life in a peaceful and  harmonious manner. Let us all join hands to take India and Goa on the path of Viksit Bharat Viksit Goa, 2047”, he said.
