Move follows suicide incident
Padeli–Guleli bridge over the Mhadei river where safety measures have been proposed following recent concerns.

The Bhironda Panchayat has initiated a proposal to install iron netting on both sides of the Padeli–Guleli bridge and has written to the PWD, seeking immediate action.
The bridge, which connects Bhironda and Guleli villages, is a key route for commuters and has reduced travel distance between Valpoi and Ponda.
However, concerns have grown following a recent incident in which a Water Resources Department engineer from Valpoi died by suicide after jumping from the bridge. Locals fear similar incidents could occur in the future.
In response, there is increasing demand for safety measures, including iron netting along the bridge. The Bhironda Panchayat has stressed the seriousness of the issue and the need for preventive action to avoid further tragedies.
Sarpanch Udayasingh Rane said the move reflects public concern and the panchayat’s responsibility. He added that local MLA Deviya Rane and Health Minister Vishwajit Rane have been approached for support.
Guleli Sarpanch Nitesh Gaonkar also highlighted the bridge’s importance and the need to prevent loss of life.
