A sense of fear and unease has gripped the village of Tivim after a sudden leopard attack was captured on CCTV near a residential house in Cansa, just 300 metres from the site of the proposed private university.
In a shocking incident, the big cat pounced on a pet dog and disappeared with it in mere seconds, leaving the villagers terrified.
The attack occurred early Wednesday morning when the unsuspecting dog, which belonged to a local family, was resting near the house.
The CCTV footage shows the leopard swiftly grabbing the dog and fleeing into the nearby woods.
The speed and stealth of the attack have left residents worried, as they fear for their safety and that of their pets.
Following the incident, alarmed villagers alerted local authorities, prompting swift action by forest officials.
Upon receiving the distress call, forest personnel rushed to the scene and carried out a thorough reconnaissance of the surrounding areas, especially the dense patches of vegetation that are often inhabited by wildlife.
To assess the threat, the forest department has decided to install cameras around the vicinity to monitor the movement of the leopard.
Once they confirm the animal’s presence, plans are underway to set up a trap in hopes of capturing and relocating the big cat to a safer location, away from human settlements.
A senior forest official commented on the situation: “We are treating this case with utmost urgency. Our priority is to ensure the safety of the residents while also minimising harm to the animal. The cameras will help us track its movements and determine the best approach for capturing it.”
The suddenness of the attack and its proximity to residential areas have left the village in a state of fear.
One of the concerned villagers expressed his anxiety, stating, “This is a matter of great concern for all of us. People here move around freely, but now we are afraid. If the leopard can attack a dog, it could very well target humans next. We are pleading with the authorities to take swift action before something worse happens.”
