Are leopards on the prowl at Damon in Raia village? According to locals, wild cats are on the prowl in the area as evident by the attack on a calf.
The residents have knocked on the doors of the forest department at Aquem to ensure the safety of the cattle in the locality as well as human beings from leopards.
A local resident Xavier Fernandes informed that a calf, belonging to Gajanand Govind Naik, was attacked at Damon-Raia in broad daylight around noon. He suspects the leopard may have come to the area to drink water from a nearby spring.
“The calf was badly attacked by the leopard. The forest department officials should take steps to protect the lives of human beings as well as domestic animals,” he demanded.
The cattle owner Gajanand Naik has dashed off a letter to the forest department to lay a trap for the leopard before it attacks again.
Residents, however, lamented that though the incident had taken place two days ago, none of the forest officials has paid a visit to Damon,
A couple of months ago, a leopard was found dead on the main Raia road after being hit by a speeding vehicle.
