Bardez Mamlatdar Dasharath Gawas took the possession of the palatial bungalow belonging to controversial builder Venkatesh Prabhu Moni at Salvador Do Mundo by sealing it, after he failed to hand it over to the authorities on his own.
The Mamlatdar had last month directed the builder to handover the vacant possession of the G+2 storey bungalow admeasuring 7,681 sq mts to the authorised officer of the Canara Bank within 48 hours after receiving the notice.
The notice had also warned that if he fails to handover the bungalow, then the property would be taken and handed over to the bank.
Since the builder failed to hand over the possession of the bungalow within the stipulated time, the Mamlatdar along with the Talathi of Salvador de Mundo, police staff and officials of Canara bank sealed the bungalow.
Just last month, a Panaji court had convicted Moni in a cheque bouncing case awarding him a six-month rigorous jail term. The builder was also asked to pay Rs 2.14 crore to the complainant, Sahajanand Investments.
Similarly, two months back the electricity department had cut off power supply to the bungalow after the builder failed to clear the electricity bill of around Rs 4 lakh.
Earlier, Canara Bank had taken possession of the builder’s office located at Dempo Trade Centre, Patto Plaza in Panaji for defaulting to clear a loan amounting to Rs 4.57 crore.
Recently, his vehicle was also attached by the bank.
