The Government of Goa has through a cabinet decision extended the maximum age for entry into government service from 40 to 45 years with effect from Friday across the board for all classes of employees, barring a few exceptions.

Parsekar said that effect of the decision will be prospective and will not affect employment process that is already on. “The maximum age limit has been increased from 40 to 45 years for A, B, C and D groups of government service,” Parsekar announced. However, the decision will be applicable only to posts whose maximum age is currently 40 years.
“Posts where the maximum age is less than 40 -- as in the case of police personnel, firemen, forests and excise guards, or more than 40, in the case of some A and B group posts, will not be affected by the extension,” Parsekar said.He also clarified that current recruitment where interviews have already been conducted will not benefit from the decision. However, in cases where the posts have been advertised but the last date for filing applications isn’t done, the posts can be re advertised through a corrigendum clarifying the maximum age. The decision to increase the age was taken by the Government through a budget speech promise earlier this year. Speaking on Friday, Parsekar said that he announced the increase in view of rising life expectancy in Goa, unemployment among mid career professionals among other reasons.
